NYASP Conference 2013!

The NYASP Conference for 2013 is right around the corner!   This year’s theme is “Expanding the Role of the School Psychologist: Balancing Theory & Practice.”

When: October 24th – 26th, 2013 (Thursday – Saturday morning)

Where it will be held: Crowne Plaza Hotel, White Plains, NY

Registration information: Register online or you can register by filling out a paper registration

This is a great event for graduate students, professionals in the field, professors, etc.  The presentations for this conference this year are so relevant to our field and I can’t wait to attend!  By participating you will meet a lot of professionals from all of New York State.   Making those type of connections is priceless and so is the knowledge you will gain by attending this year’s conference.

We hope you can join us this year — Register today!

Back to School (soon)

534438_448395911846767_44903550_nAs most of you are aware the summer is ending which also means it is time to begin preparing to be back into schools.  What I wonder is how school psychologists are preparing for another school year.

I will be entering into my internship this year so I will see a lot of that preparation in action but how do you prepare in the weeks before?

Here are a few other questions I am curious about:

  • How do you keep all of your meetings organized?
  • What references do you find yourself using the most during the school year?
  • What new tool kits have you ordered for this school year?
  • What trainings do you plan on attending this year?

I love hearing your feedback!  Feel free to answer all or any of the questions in the comment section of this post.

NASP on Pinterest — Great Information!

I wanted to let you all know that NASP has created a Pinterest board.  For all of those not familiar with Pinterest, I will explain a bit.

You can think of Pinterest like an pushpin board.  On a pushpin board you would pin your favorite recipes, ideas, and items you need to find without doing a lot of searching.  Pinterest is a virtual pushpin board where you can “pin” or “like” all types of items from many different users.

The NASP Pinterest boards are full of valuable information that I think you will find quite easy to find and informative.  This is just another resource out there for you!

Happy School Psychology Awareness Week!

From November 12th – 16th is School Psychology awareness week!  This year’s focus is Know Your Own Strengths which helps students discover, share, and celebrate their strengths.  Help your students and school focus on finding and knowing the strengths within themselves and sharing and celebrating those strengths within the school community, their academics, and their lives.

The program involves a series of resources and activities school psychologists can use to reach out to school staff, students, and parents to help students realize their strengths and how those strengths can help them develop relationships, deal with stress, and promote optimal development.

I obtained most of this information from the NASP website.  You must be a member of NASP to obtain the resources you could use to promote this week.  If you are a member, you can obtain resources on the Know Your Own Strengths, Gratitude Works, Possibilities in Action Partner programs and the Student Power award.
